Ngrapah is one of the villages in the Banyubiru sub-district, Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. The main livelihoods of the local people are agriculture in hilly area and fishing in the waters of Rawa Pening. In the context of business diversification, a catfish (Clarias gariepinus) hatchery has begun to be developed. One of the Pokdakan (Aquaculturist Group) which is engaged in catfish hatchery in the village is Pokdakan Mandiri, chaired by Agus Jumeri. This group has been conducting a catfish hatchery business since 2017. The production results from this group catfish hatchery have fluctuated, but the trend is decreasing. Factors that cause, among others, due to poor water quality management. Improper management of water quality management causes a decrease in the quality and quantity of eggs produced.
In general, they do not know what causes and triggers the decline in water quality. This is because their knowledge about water is based on experience. This often leads to errors in taking the next step, so the technology and management applied by them is not appropriate. This will have an impact on the low efficiency of the efforts made and ultimately affect the production of the resulting seeds. In order to solve their problems, the Community Service Team of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University, consisting of Dicky Harwanto, S.Pi, M.Sc, Ph.D; Dr. Ir. Sarjito, M.App.Sc; Dr. Ir. Desrina, M.Sc and Dewi Nurhayati S.Pi, M.Si introduced an appropriate technology, namely recirculating aquaculture system technology, which uses mechanical and biological filters, to Pokdakan Mandiri, as an effort to improve the water quality of catfish hatchery.
